1997 Land Rover Defender 90 Hardtop
One of 1300 hardtops built in '97, this D90 has had two very fastidious owners, performing all servicing on time that required by Rover. The original owner added an Old Man Emu suspension, but otherwise left the car alone. The second owner added a brush guard and diamond plate to the hood, rockers and fender tops. The rear seats flip down and you have the option of side or forward facing. This is overall a very clean and well maintained car. We'll leave it to East Coast Rover to detail the upgrades for the '97 model year below:
For 1997 the only major changes were the gearbox, colors, and engine. The elimination of the 5 speed manual gearbox left all Defenders with 4 speed ZF built automatic gearboxes. The alloy V8 was upgraded from 3.9 to 4.0 liters. Power output stayed at 182, but the real change came in the engine's electronic systems. The new distributorless ignition and GEMS management system was an improvement over the older units.
